We offer an intimate and welcoming
Venice Beach House experience.

Established with the conviction that local neighborhoods, unique experiences and comfortable spaces are integral to elevating your home-away-from-home experience, The Common Houses have been designed so guests can explore the places they visit ‘authentically’ - with style, accessibility and individuality.

Staying at one of our Common Houses, travelers are empowered to experience the real Venice Beach, without having to compromise on location, style, or amenities.

CONVENIENT LOCATION

"Our stay at The Common Studio, Venice Beach was nothing short of perfect. The studio was exactly how it looks in the pictures. Tidy, great location, quiet neighborhood. I would highly recommend this accommodation for anyone looking to be in the heart of Venice."

STYLISH DECOR

"The Common House is every bit as stylish and cool as it seems in the photos. The host has clearly put a lot of attention into remodeling and decorating. A wonderful place to call home while you're in Venice."

GRACIOUS HOSPITALITY

"Yuwen is a great hostess and she provides a wonderful home! The house was roomy, very clean, and spacious. We had a couple requests and Yuwen responded right away and tended to our requests without hesitation - a true hostess in every sense of the word.

“I just want to build a vacation home that I would want to stay in when I travel,”
— Yuwen, founder of The Common Houses

It all started with one house.

A young architect travelled around the world one third of her time, soon to realize that the most important essence to call home was universal - a warm candle light at night, a personalized collection to remind us of our special memories and the hole-in-the-wall shops to feed us and make us feels like part of their communities.

The architect remodeled the fixer-upper, creating a modern and comfortable home. With her casual and friendly personality, the design of the Common House embraced the comfortable, modern and effortless cool spirit of the Venice Beach community. The house became a communal place to welcome friends. Friends gathered around the fire pit, hanging out on the patio and enjoying the Venice life.

The architect decided to buy another house. The Common House joined Airbnb, becoming a home-away-from-home for new friends. Expanding her collection, the architect added the Common Studio, the Ella House, and the Opposite House. Translating the eclectic, bohemian style into diverse dwellings, the vacation homes became sought after destinations for comfort and style. One house after another, The Common Houses became a community that allowed the guests to stay, play and build their own "Common Experiences."

THE VISIONARY: YUWEN

"All meaning and everlasting change starts first in the imagination and then works itself out."
-Albert Einstein

It is a fine balance between daydreaming about the past and imagining the future that creates a joyful present. Yuwen, founder and designer of The Commonhouses, finds inspiration in unexpected places.

As a child on a small tropical island, she grew to love water and appreciate every sunset. Yuwen carried those passions with her upon moving to the states to pursue architecture. A fan of street eats, fine whiskey, unconventional art and local yore, Yuwen worked to design cool, comfortable spaces. A frequent traveller, she brings different cultures together, creating experiences that break boundaries of style. Her most recent travel adventure: a sketching trip to Berlin.
